January 14, 2009

Oh no, I'm out of bacon! So instead I had cold sliced turkey for breakfast, about 4oz. No carbs, about 30g protein. Probably should have had less, if I'd considered my lunch plans.

Fancy lunch today; an attorney who does work for me took me out to Américas, which is South American fusion, and I had plantain chips, a salad, and a churasco-style steak (mmm, chimichurri sauce!) with roasted veggies. Plantains are hard to fit into a low-carb diet; much like bananas, they're pretty packed with sugar. But I kept myself to a pretty limited portion of the chips, had a salad instead of the corn soup, and didn't eat the potato that came with my steak (although I did eat the small slice of fried plantain and all the low-carb veggies). After much thought, I'm going to call this 25g of carbs for this meal. It's possible that it was more, but my blood sugar barely budged -- it was 84 before eating, 97 an hour after, and 91 an hour and a half after that -- so I think that's reasonable. And about 40g protein.

Dinner was broccoli, Parisienne carrots, and chicken strips baked in a tomato-based sauce; what might look like breading in this photo is actually hunks of tomato clinging to the chicken. About 12g carbs, 35g protein.

I had a little snack of olives before bedtime; they're all fat, no carbs or protein to speak of.

Totals for today were 37g carbs, and a little high on the protein at 105g.
