March 31, 2009

I knew I was having a fancy business lunch, so I had a light breakfast. Low-carb yogurt has 3g carbs, 12g protein.

Fresh mozzarella with eggplant and zucchini, and braised beef shortribs with sauteed spinach. The shortribs defeated me; I only ate about half. About 8g carbs, 60g protein.

Broccoli and brisket for dinner. About 6g carbs, 38g protein.

Totals for the day are about 17g carbs, 110g protein.

Breakfast was... not bacon! Instead, I had about 3oz of cheddar. No carbs, 18g protein.

Lunch was at Chili's, the shrimp caesar salad without croutons. About 6g carbs, 23g protein.

And some mini Toblerone bars. 10g carbs, 2g protein.

Dinner was pizza, no crust. About 8g carbs, 50g protein.

And I also had some nuts, probably about 2 oz but I'll confess I didn't measure. About 7g carbs, 12g protein.

Totals for the day are 31g carbs, 105g protein.

Bacon for breakfast, yet again. 5 slices instead of the usual 4, though. No carbs, 13g protein.

A snack of kalamata olives and the rest of the Appenzeller cheese that I didn't eat the other day. About 5g carbs, 16g protein.

Lunch was a McDonald's quarter-pounder, of which I ate about 1/4 of the bun (the part of the bottom bun that all the cheese was stuck to). No pic because I left my camera in the car. About 12g carbs, 24g protein.

Chicken Romanesco from Cafe Express -- about 8g carbs, 48g protein.

And a Starbucks caffe Americano with cream. The picture's very dim because it was Earth Hour and they had most of the lights off. Actually, I'm impressed that I got this good a pic with an iPhone camera under these conditions. About 3g carbs, 2g protein.

Totals for the day are 28g carbs, 93g protein.

Bacon for breakfast again; no carbs, 10g protein.

Lunch, at home, was a bowl of tuna salad. About 3g carbs, 24g protein.

And I also had a bit of dark chocolate. 3g carbs, 2g protein.

Dinner was... pretty awful, actually. Pot roast and green beans at Culver's, which is usually good, but the green beans were drastically undercooked and the pot roast so salty as to be practically inedible. I ate somewhat less than half of it; about 7g carbs, 20g protein.

Okay, so, it's not a good plan to compensate for bad dinner with dessert. But I was taking the kids to the movies, and knew I'd never stay out of the popcorn without more than that, so I got a dish of vanilla custard, and ate half of it and tossed the rest. About 15g carbs, 3g protein.

Later at home, I had about 2oz of cheddar; no carbs, 12g protein.

And some mini Toblerone bars. 10g carbs, 2g protein.

And late at night, I had about half this package of beef bites. 3g carbs, 12g protein.

Totals for the day are about 41g carbs, 85g protein. Not my best day, but within limits even so.

Low-carb yogurt for breakfast; 3g carbs, 12g protein.

Lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings; Naked Tenders and a salad have about 4g carbs, 30g protein. By the way, if you just order a salad with blue cheese dressing, you get the thin stuff in a packet, but if you ask them for the blue cheese that they serve with wings, they're happy to give it to you, and it's a lot better.

Dinner at Red Robin -- the French dip sandwich with veggies instead of fries, and no bread. About 10g carbs, 40g protein.

I had a wedge of Appenzeller cheese that had been in the fridge awhile, so I decided I was going to finish it off, even though it was 4.5oz, which is quite a bit more cheese than I'd normally eat. That's what's pictured, but in the event, I decided I really didn't want to eat that much; I ate about 2oz, and put the rest in a baggie and back in the fridge. No carbs, about 14g protein.

Totals for the day are 17g carbs, 96g protein. No cravings to fight today, either; I'm finally feeling truly back on track.

Still without a camera.

For breakfast I had the most fabulous omelet -- ground beef, onions, tomato, cheddar, sour cream, salsa -- and cottage cheese and tomato slices on the side. If you're ever in Dallas, Cindi's New York Deli is highly recommended. About 6g carbs, 32g protein.

For lunch I stopped close to home at a Cracker Barrel, and got the lemon pepper trout, with green beans and a salad, from their low-carb menu. About 4g carbs, 40g protein.

And then... I don't know what happened. I had a couple of Lindor truffles, about 10g carbs, and then couldn't stop. I think it was probably a PMS attack -- occasionally that makes me go all ALL YOUR CARBS ARE BELONG TO ME, and starting with the chocolate mid-afternoon was probably an error. In any case, I ate 4 of the truffles and 4 pieces of marzipan before I was through, for a total of about 40g carbs, and maybe 8g protein.

I also had a piece of low-carb meatloaf, with a little low-carb ketchup on it. About 4g carbs, 70g protein.

Totals for the day were 54g carbs, 150g protein. Completely off the rails today.

March 19, 2009

Lunch was at Ruby Tuesday again -- the bison bacon cheeseburger, with cheddar instead of American, no bun, no sauce, and broccoli instead of fries. About 6g carbs, 38g protein.

Once more with the caffe Americano and cream, only about an ounce this time -- 2g carbs, 1g protein.

And that's where my phone conked out, so you'll have to take my word for it that I had a salad (no croutons), steak, and broccoli for dinner. About 8g carbs, 50g protein.

Totals for the day are about 16g carbs, 89g protein.

I was on vacation, so I got to eat in some places that I don't usually eat. Lunch was at Ruby Tuesday's -- I had the salad bar, a quiche (didn't eat the crust), and some broccoli. I figure about 12g carbs, 25g protein.

I really love the sugar-free Cinnamon Dolce latte at Starbucks, but that's a pretty big carb jolt, so I tried something different -- caffe Americano with the same sugar-free cinnamon dolce syrup, and a couple ounces of half & half. We have a winnah! It's great, and a much smaller carb cost, at about 3g carbs, 2g protein. If they only offered real cream, it'd be even better.

We had dinner at a little Czech/Austrian place up in the foothills of the Ozarks, and they actually had a low-carb appetizer -- a cheese and pork plate. Great cheese, too! And then for dinner I had sauerbraten with the sauce on the side so I could control it, and sauerkraut. I'm going to estimate about 12g carbs, 70g protein.

And then I had one more muffin for dessert. 2g carbs, 5g protein.

Totals for the day were 29g carbs, 102g protein.

Breakfast was two low-carb chocolate muffins and some cheese; about 4g carbs, 29g protein.

For lunch I had some brisket with low-carb BBQ sauce, and some blueberries. About 9g carbs, 20g protein.

I also ate a bit of chocolate after lunch. 3g carbs, 2g protein.

Dinner was the full-size portion of pot roast at The Black-Eyed Pea; 13g carbs, 73g protein.

And I really felt like a bit of indulgence, so I went to Starbucks and had a tall sugar-free cinnamon dolce latte. 12g carbs, 9g protein.

Totals for the day were 41g carbs, 143g protein. A little over-the-top there, but not a big deal in the scheme of things.

March 14, 2009

I slept in today, so I had low-carb yogurt instead of bacon since the time to lunch was shorter. 3g carbs, 12g protein.

For lunch I had a couple more chocolate muffins, and the toppings off some leftover pizza. About 8g carbs, 25g protein.

For dinner I had a wedge salad with blue cheese, and then broccoli and prime rib. About 10g carbs, 50g protein.

And I was up late and had the munchies, so I had some beef sticks. About 5g carbs, 15g protein.

Totals for the day are 26g carbs, 102g protein.

March 13, 2009

Bacon for breakfast as usual; no carbs, 10g protein.

Still the best fast-food lunch -- shrimp and veggies from Long John Silver's. 6g carbs, 17g protein.

I knew dinner was likely to be late, so I had an afternoon snack of one of my chocolate muffins. 2g carbs, 5g protein.

I ended up having to eat at a food court; the barbecue restaurant was the best choice, with the chopped beef sandwich -- no sauce, and I didn't eat the bun. No carbs, about 40g protein.

I also ate about half an ounce of peanuts, of which I didn't take a picture. About 3g carbs and 3g protein.

That was sparse, and lunch wasn't overwhelming either, so when I got home I had some cheese, about 3oz. No carbs, 18g protein.

And I had some olives; maybe 3g carbs, no protein to speak of.

Today's totals are 14g carbs, 93g protein.
